Business Essentials for Scientists 2021, 2 ECTS

Business Essentials for Scientists (BES) is an introductory course to commercialisation and business development in academia, aimed at doctoral students and junior researchers at Åbo Akademi University and University of Turku. Altogether 20-30 participants from University of Turku and Åbo Akademi University are selected to the course. Participants are selected based on a motivation letter. 

Come listen and learn from entrepreneurs, researchers and other professionals with first-hand experience in:

• Starting your own company
• Pitching (how to present your research/idea)
• Financing your startup
• Immaterial rights and technology transfer
• Working outside the academia
• Marketing of academic expertise

The course consists of seven (7) learning days (28 h) held between 12:00 and 15:30 on 30.9., 7.10, 14.10., 21.10., 28.10., 4.11. and 11.11., and independent studying (26 h). A detailed schedule will be available later. The course, due to Covid-19, will be held online.

Application deadline is 16.09.2021 at 16.00.

1 page motivation letter is required to apply. Please include following topics in your motivation letter: Your motivation and need to participate in this course, any exciting ideas you wish to develop in relation to your research (if applicable), any previous business experience and your possibilities to commit and participate on all online lectures in this course.
