Call for mobility to the ÅAU Institute for Human Rights in 2024.

 

Information on the mobility program

The Institute for Human Rights at Åbo Akademi University (ÅAU), Finland, invites applications for short-term research mobility in 2024 (from 1st of January to 31st of August, excluding July)

The objectives of the mobility programme are to promote research collaboration in the field of human rights between researchers at ÅAU and partner universities, to develop new and deepen existing research and development initiatives, and to support the internationalization of research training in human rights.

To facilitate the achievement of the program objectives, priority is given to scholars who conduct research in areas linked to on-going or planned research projects at the Institute for Human Rights. Thus, the mobility program supports mutually beneficial research visits, where the benefits for both the individual researcher and ÅAU are clearly stated. In the 2024 Call the following thematic fields are prioritized (please consult the webpage of the ÅAU Institute for Human Rights for more information on the ongoing research, www.abo.fi/humanrights):

  • The interaction between international human rights law and national criminal law with a particular focus on the rights of the ‘vulnerable’
  • Localization in international human rights law
  • Human rights education
  • Human rights, migration, mobility
  • Socio-economic rights in particular social protection and social innovation

Who can apply?

 The call targets scholars on different academic levels (Professors, Postdoctoral researchers, and doctoral candidates). Priority is given to scholars in law, or scholars from other disciplines with an interest in law as a social and/or cultural phenomenon.

What do we offer?

Research stay at the Institute for Human Rights from 1 to 4 weeks from January to 31st of August 2024 (excluding the entire month of July).

  • Integration into the research activities of the Institute for Human Rights, including the possibility of participating in research seminars and conferences, when available
  • Working space and access to library and computer services
  • Mobility grant of 475 €/week, for covering costs of living and accommodation.
  • Reimbursement of travel costs (ticket, visa, insurance taken for the purpose of this trip) up to 1500 € from countries outside Europe and 600 € within Europe. The researcher must make the travel arrangements him/herself in the most affordable way. The travel costs have to be fully verified with original receipts and tickets.
  • The Institute assists in finding accommodation, e.g., by providing a list of hotels and guest houses in Turku. The researcher pays for the accommodation him/herself.

Attachments to be included in the application

The following documents must be included in the application form: 

  • A motivation letter addressing your interest in the mobility program and specifying your preferred period of stay (max two pages)
  • Academic CV, including list of publications
  • A research plan (max three pages)
  • A project abstract targeted to a general audience (250 words)

Submission and deadline

The complete application shall be submitted by 7th of November 2023. All applicants will be notified of the selections by the mid-December 2023.
