Sign-up sheet for Workshop on Sensitive Teaching

Reflecting on Pedagogics Across Injury and Repair:
Speaking racialized, gendered and otherly (dis)abled bodies collectively and responsibly.

Many scholars and  lecturers tackle topics that relate to their personal experience and issues of power and privilege, positionality and social justice.  In general, and especially in classrooms, students and teachers might find it challenging to encounter and handle one’s and each other’s vulnerabilities and anxieties. These (vulnerabilities and anxieties) may be related to discrimination and unsafety, due to sexuality, religion, gendering, racialisation, migration precarity, or the intersections of these. Different questions of power and privilege, insecurities and positionelities are also related to the circumstances of advanced racial and global capitalism, that render us vulnerable in uncountable ways.

Thus, the question of this workshop is: How do we maintain an engaged, sensible and responsible dialogue and conversation, and open mind allowing us to do justice to sensitive topics without triggering  injury or resigning to sterile silence? How do we prepare ourselves and our lectures and learning spaces to become places of reparative, attentive and accountable encounters across differences?

The workshop will include two lectures/talks and a panel on how we experience personal and political matters in scholarship, in daily life and in classroom encounters. We will go through theories, empirics and personal experiences in search of modes of collaboration, listening and being around each other in safer and more politically-attuned classrooms.

The second part will be an open discussion and exchange of ideas, on questions and traumas and anxieties that are tackled, but that may also be also triggered in class.

We have limited spots available and therefore ask you to sign up for the workshop. DEADLINE for sign-up is 21.11.
